Italy is definitely a special place; for centuries it has attracted visitors from around the world to admire its wonders. Will it be to enjoy its spectacular attractions if more and more celebrities are choosing to get married in the Boot?
From North to South, let’s see who are the famous couples who chose some of the dreamiest wedding venues around Italy!
1. EMILY BLUNT & JOHN KRASINSKI – Lake Como
After dating for two years, the passionate love story between actors Emily Blunt and John Krasinski finally transformed into a wonderful Italian style wedding on a special venue on Lake Como. Many Hollywood stars took part to the private ceremony, including George Clooney who owns a beautiful villa on the shoreline. Who knows if it was him who suggested the place?
2. SALMA HAYEK & FRANÇOIS-HENRI PINAULT – Venezia
Since a civil ceremony on Valentine’s Day in Paris wasn’t enough, Mexican actress and French businessman performed an encore hosting a spectacular wedding in Venice, complete with a masked ball! Wow, that’s what we call grand style!
3. GEORGE CLOONEY & AMAL ALAMUDDIN – Venice
Italy has always been a special place for George, so no wonders he chose one of Italy’s most romantic cities to exchange vows with Lebanese-British lawyer, activist, and author Amal Alamuddin. The couple said their “I do” in Venice in a very intimate ceremony alongside family and friends. Who knows how many celebrities have taken part in the event?
4. KIM KARDASHIAN & KANYE WEST – Florence
After a pre-wedding party at Versailles, France, the most popular couple of the web decided to swear eternal love in a truly princely frame: the Forte Belvedere in Florence, a 16th century fortress famous for its breathtaking view and for hosting posh contemporary art exhibitions. The couple, who has shelled out about $ 300,000 to rent the venue, chose Florence and Italy for a very personal reason: it’s where their first child, North, was conceived. Oh so sweet!
5. TOM CRUISE & KATIE HOLMES – Lake Bracciano
For their ironclad, shrouded in mystery wedding, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes chose the Odescalchi Castle on Lake Bracciano, a princely residence for a sumptuous ceremony which captivated Italy and the world. Too bad their union has proved everything rather than solid!
6. SOFIA COPPOLA & THOMAS MARS – Basilicata Region
Sofia Coppola chose to honour her Italian origins for her marriage with Phoenix frontman, Thomas Mars. The two tied the knot in the garden of Palazzo Margherita, a historic building property of Francis Ford Coppola in his parents’ hometown, Bernalda, in the southern region of Basilicata. The wedding menu was strictly Italian: cheeses, figs, pasta – and, of course, wine!
7. JESSICA BIEL & JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE – Salento
And the South of Italy was the place of choice for the Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake, too. The couple got married in the beautiful resort Borgo Ignazia, in the Upper Salento. The private ceremony was heavily guarded against onlookers and paparazzi: only 150 guests who enjoyed the autumn colors of the Apulian countryside. Long live the newlyweds!
After all English poet and author Samuel Johnson was exactly right when he wrote the famous aphorism: “A man who has not been in Italy, is always conscious of an inferiority, from his not having seen what it is expected a man should see”.
So don’t be shy, a fantastic destination wedding in Italy is waiting for you!
