Christmas is nearly upon us and so we slowly plunge ourselves into that ethereal atmosphere of lights and childhood memories that’s so good for the heart. In this time of family celebrations we are seized by a strange laziness (well, Christmas food binges help a lot!) so what is the best way to relax? But of course, lie down on the couch and be embraced by a sweet, sickly sweet, totally schmaltzy romantic comedy!
So get your handkerchiefs ready and go on a movie binge: here are our 7 must-see!
1) Love Actually
A star-studded cast for this cult Christmas movie: Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Martin Freeman, Keira Knightley, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Billy Bob Thornton and Andrew Lincoln. Wow! Love is all around!
2) When Harry met Sally
The Bible of romcoms asks us a single, momentous question: “can men and women ever really just be best friends?” The answer lies in the final scene at New Year’s Eve party in the midst of a wonderful Christmassy New York! Standing ovation for the unforgettable fake orgasm scene!
3) The Holiday
Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz play two women disappointed by their lovers who decide to swap homes over Christmas to be alone. But love unexpected ― as Jack Black and Jude Law ― will eventually find them and knock on their door! You can’t run from love, darlings!
4) Four Christmases
Happily unmarried and childless Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon annually make up unthinkable excuses to avoid holidays with their families. A series of funny coincidences bring them to reveal their secret, force them to spend festivities together but also remind them the importance of family! Christmas blues: how to laugh about it!
5) The Family Man
Inspired by the Christmas classic It’s A Wonderful Life, this film with Nicolas Cage invites us to reflect on the choices we make every day and how we behave with people around us. After all, isn’t this the true spirit of Christmas? To be watched with the whole family!
The two protagonists of this romantic comedy, Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack, meet by chance on Christmas shopping and are overwhelmed by a strong mutual attraction. However, they decided to rely fate and see if they will find each other again. Of course they will… love will triumph, thanks to (Christmas) stars. A starry sky is our favourite blanket!
7) Bridget Jones’s Diary
Even though Christmas isn’t the predominant theme of this amusing story, the company of good and awkward Renée Zellweger has become a classic of this very romantic period. And then, who can forget the scene where Colin Firth wears the reindeer jumper? Go go Bridget!
This varied playlist is our little Christmas gift, your Fairies wish you to spend the holidays in the company of those you love! Merry Christmas!
